As of Saturday, July 8, British Columbia’s 700 blueberry farmers have been out in the fields, starting their annual harvest of our favourite berries! Despite a later start than in recent years, our growers are expecting a solid season, with a good supply of juicy, naturally sweet blueberries to be available through until mid-September.
“This is perfect time for people to get a taste of local and fresh blueberries directly from the farm, supermarkets, or produce stores,” said British Columbia Blueberry Council Board Chair Jack Bates. A list of blueberry farms offering both “u-pick” options and farm gate sales are available on our website.
The best way to enjoy B.C. blueberries is by the handful but for if you’re handy in the kitchen, the Recipes section of our site has more than 100 recipes, offering creative and healthy ideas on how to use your blueberries this summer - from nutritious breakfasts and traditional baking, through to salads, cocktails and ideas for the grill. A fun twist on a traditional entrée salad, a Blueberry Cobb Salad makes an easy summer dinner, while a batch of Blueberry Punch (with both non-alcoholic and adult versions) is a great way to cater for a crowd.
